First Lutheran School Benton provides an education comparable the best public elementary schools. Our trained and experienced teachers rely on curriculum that is taught to more than 200,000 students around the country within Lutheran schools, when all denominations are combined. We continue the tradition of the Christian school in Avilla, Arkansas, which served generations of families. We welcome all families who are interested in a Christian school setting for Kindergarten through 5th grade. FLSB serves the larger Christian community by including religious instruction that emphasizes the narrative of Scripture and the fundamental tenets of traditional Trinitarian Christianity. Our Lutheran Philosophy
First Lutheran School Benton is not designed to make Lutherans out of other kinds of Christians, but to help all kinds of Christians become stronger and better Christians. As a Lutheran School, however, what we teach and how we worship will be consistent with confessional Lutheranism. Pastor James Burns discusses the finer points of our teachings with parents directly. At the elementary school age, this will rarely present issues for students and their families, but should differences arise, we leave it to parents to guide your children according to your own Christian traditions and beliefs. We encourage your family to use your child’s education at FLSB to sustain and deepen your own faith. Congregational membership at our church is not required to enroll at FLSB, we encourage parents to become active in a local Christian congregation and we share broader church activities with parents when they’re on the calendar.
What is the hallmark of Lutheran theology in a school setting? Religious education at FLSB focuses on what all traditional Christian denominations share in common: the Scriptures and biblical narrative. Our doctrinal focus is articulated in the Nicene Creed, common to most Protestant denominations and known to non-denomational churches, although not shared in worship. For example, we worship One God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We teach students about the incarnation, atonement, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, and his return in glory.
